When you do what others won’t, you can live how others can’t.
The Limitless Model
If you are not learning or living at your full potential, if there is a gap between your current reality and your desired reality , there is a limit that must be released and replaced in one of three areas.
- A limit in your Mindset(the WHAT)-you entertain a low belief in yourself, your capabilities, what you deserve, or what is possible.
- A limit in your Motivation(the WHY)-you lack the drive, purpose, or energy to take action.
- A limit in your Methods(the HOW)-you were taught and are acting on a process that is not effective to create the results you desire.
You have a second brain in your gut, what you eat directly affects your brain
How to read and remember this (and any) book
Pomodoro technique - optimal time for a task is 25 minutes, followed by a 5 minute break. Each 25 minute chunk is called a “Pomodoro”
- Specifically related to the effect of primacy and regency
FASTER Method
- Forget, Act, State, Teach, Enter, Review
- F is for Forget
- Key to laser focus is to remove or forget that which distracts you. There are three things you want to forget (at least temporarily). -
- The first is what you already know (we tend to assume we understand more than we do about a new subject). One of the reasons children learn rapidly is because they are empty vessels; they know they don’t know. Some people who claim to have twenty years of experience that they’ve repeated twenty times.
- Approach with “a beginner’s mind.” Your mind is like a parachute - it only works when it’s open.
- The second thing is to forget what’s not urgent or important. Contrary to popular belief, your brain doesn’t multitask.
- When your mind wanders elsewhere and that something is important but not urgent - don’t try to not think of it. What you resist persists. Keep a notebook close by to capture that through or idea by writing it down.
- The third is to forget about your limitations.
- A is for Act
- Learning is not a spectator sport. The human brain does not learn as much by consumption as it does by creation. Be more active in your learning.
- S is for State
- All learning is state-dependent. Highly influenced by your thoughts and physiology. When you tie a feeling to information, the information becomes more memorable. Information times emotion helps create long-term memories.Consciously choose states of joy, fascination, and curiosity.
- T is for Teach
- Learn with the intention fo teaching the information to someone else.
- E is for Enter
- If its not in your Calender, chances are it doesn’t get done. Schedule time for personal growth just as you do with appointments and work.
- R is for Review
- Spaced repetition - review your notes in spread out sessions. Take a few moments before each session to actively retrieve what you learned the session before.
“Life is C between B and D” - Jean-Paul Sartre
The life we live is the choices we make between the “B” of birth and the “D” of death.
Most people are sincerely interested in doing something they know they should do. But they don’t do it, because they consider it a preference not a promise.
Ask questions often. “He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers.” - Cameroon Proverb
If you prep your mind with the right kinds of questions before you read, you’ll see answers everywhere.
What is your dominant question?
